Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone, NC – Asheville, NC

It was absolutely beautiful. I love being in the mountains.

Moment of Zen

Hopefully these views will help you connect with your hippie zen-like karma filled side. I took them both in the last week in a half.

Nags Head Pier, slightly brightened. Taken after the 4th of July Fireworks.

Google Calendar helped remind me about 12 of 12 by sending me a text message.

9:35 pm – View of Harpers Gentlemens Club and Exotic Carwash [Flickr]
You read that right… Exotic Carwash. We dropped off Kristens roommate to go hang out in Greensboro with her brother, and this is their drop off spot. The brother called. "I’ve been here forever, where are you!" "We’re 2 exits away" "Well hurry up, I feel like I’m going to get mugged."

9:42 pm – Exactly 124,000 miles [Flickr]
Kristen’s Car is perfectly at 124,000 miles at the gas station. Lucky number of the day.

Bathroom – Check, Slushie – Check, Doughnut – Check, and we wonder why America is fat… Cause we’re pigs!

1:29 am – That took way too long [Flickr]
This trip took 7.5 hours, oh man what a lonng drive.

Made it to Ashland, VA. Time for this overtime 12 of 12 to be over!

Artsy Shots?

I played around with the camera tonight and got these two:

It’s nice outside

So, today was pretty dreary on and off, but I had a good day none the less. I made a “checklist” to start my day, and got through most everything. I went for a run, I made a doctors appointment, did my laundry and so forth. I also went out tonight and saw a bunch of people I haven’t seen in a long time. It was a good day, and I complement it on mixing things up, and getting off our butts to go do something. Sure, we’re nerds and we can still “Tweet” or “Blog” about it, but it certainly provides better content than “I watched a re-run of ‘Everyone Loves Raymond’” :-p

I met up with my friend Travis, Lisa and Z, as well as their friends Liz and Sam at Fodo’s in Chinatown.

I Then managed to truck it out to Jammin Java in Vienna to see Stanley Chong’s band “Taking Saturn”. These guys are good. Drummer = Best one I know, Guitarist = Awesome, Singer & Bassist = Really good. They were really tight and put on a good show. I also liked the fact that they were genuine and nice. I thought they sounded like a mix of Blue October and Linkin Park. When I told people they sounded like Blue October after the show I got some weird faces, but hey, it’s what I thought.

UPDATE: TwitPic is HIGHLY unreliable, this is now on flickr.

Backyard Life

I took a lunch break and took some pictures in the yard today. Then tonight, I played around with a few, and here they are.

Scanning Pictures

Wow, Scanning pictures. Sounds like what someone did in 1998 when scanners first came out… However, i spent a good 5 hours yesterday scanning hundreds of pictures. It was a cool blast from the past, and my attempt to get all my (or a lot of my) pictures in one place (flickr). Most of these are “private”, but here are a few!

Here are 4 for your enjoyment.

Jackson Hole, January 2005, Virginia Tech Snowboard Club, Chris and Travis

My first snowboarding trip ever in January 2004 at Massanutten with Marsh, Travis and Chris

Back in High School, I was good at sports and used to win awards with Richard and Semere

Last May, Kristen and I got to go snorkeling in Cozumel Mexico!

REI

I got an email this morning from REI asking for outdoor member photos. I looked through all 80 or so of them that they had and a lot of them reminded me of places I had been on my trip. In order to hopefully get my handstanding out in the public realm a little, I sent them the picture of me doing a handstand at Guadalupe Peak (8,751ft) which is the “Top of Texas”. I sent them this one because no one had a picture from Texas.

And now that I am writing this out, I realized I have a picture from “Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park which I will also upload because I did not see any from there!

I hope REI likes them and adds them to their photo gallery!

Survey about the size of photos on my site:
A: Keep large pictures because I love seeing them so big on your site!
B: Use the smaller images so I can read what you’re saying, then if I want to see the picture bigger, I can click on it.

Christmas Card

I made my family get together for a picture this past Sunday afternoon for a holiday card. You might be lucky enough to get one of these in the mail at somepoint, but in case you don’t, this one is for you!

Best responses so far:

  • “Wow, you have a big cat!” -Mom’s Co-worker
  • “How did you manage to get your cat in a Santa Suit?” -Mom’s Co-worker

Bryce Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon, Panoramic Style

So I went on another REI Adventures trip this week which was a blast. We hiked down the New Hanse Trail and hit the Colorado River, Tonto Plateau and finished up using Grandview Trail. 3 days down in a beautiful place. Check it out.

Vancouver Island, so far

I like it. Once the sun came out, I feel like i’m the northeast coast, except not as busy, mountains, and just plain cooler. I took a nap during the rain early yesterday and enjoyed playing around on the beach and walking around Tofino last night around late sunset. Just FYI, Tofino is like Marijuana city. I saw probably 10 people in dreads in the hour I was there, and this morning at 1030am while packing up the campsite, could smell a little wafting through the air. British Columbia, aka joint country :-p

Random note:
Tim Hortons -> Everywhere (almost as bad as Starbucks and McDonalds)

Here are some of my pics from the beach as I enjoyed it yesterday

One of my favorites of Lake Minnewanka. The boatride (not on that boat) is 40 dollars, and too much for me this time… maybe i’ll catch one at Lake Louise?

HDR to the Maximum

I got played around with HDRs last night and made 3 of them… (High Dynamic Range images which are created by combining 3 pictures with different exposure levels)

Ptarmigan Tunnel (Say that 5 times real fast :-P )

The other side of the Ptarmigan Tunnel, WOW.

Arrived at Badlands National Park (Day 11)

I got here today about midday and checked it out a little.

I’m going to be backpacking out the next two nights, but coming back in between for a water fillup.

Here is a picture from the Missouri River and then from Badlands.

Holla at your girl

Next stop will be Yellowstone. Will be driving there on Tuesday (I think) haha. Seems like cellphone works here for the most part…. Cheers!

Picture Dump (Day 9 and 10) briefly…

A View of Chicago

Out in Chicago (Day 6)

I studied the map, devised a plan of attack, and then hit the city.

Double Decker Bus tour…

Then I walked down through the city towards the express bus to the Museum of Science and Industry and got a handstand on the way…

The museum was pretty cool. Definitely tailored for younger kids but I enjoyed the “coal mine” tour.

..and my last handstand (camera was balanced on my backpack and I used a timer)…

Tuesday felt pretty lonely for the first time. I know it was just a temporary thing though. I’m posting this on Wednesday and today was much better, just running on no sleep and that’s why this post is so bland! Also, pictures from a tour bus aren’t that great, so I decided to spare you from them. Check out my Day 7 pictures which I like much more :-)

Definitions, and a picture

100LL is 100 octane, low lead fuel, generally referred to as “aviation grade” fuel. In comparison “Regular” at the car gas pump is 87 octane and is “unleaded”.

Under the hood refers to simulating flying an aircraft under “instrument” conditions. This would mean that there is low visibility and you must rely on your instruments, rather than what you see (or don’t see) out the window. The hood blocks your vision of the outside while allowing you to focus on the instruments. My “hood” was actually a pair of safety glasses with scotch tape, but hey, it has the same effect!

And… Buffalo Mountain
