   As long as the backpacking trip avoids the mile-long lines of cars, go for it. Ellie and I drove into Yosemite in 1982 or 1983 (when it was less crowded) and the view when you first see half dome really can be described as “takes your breath away”

   Looking forward to being breathless! I think this backpacking trip will be great because it will get me away from the crowds.
